Girls Put 800 Hearts on School Lockers

Two friends covered Lake Zurich's Middle School North with kindness.

Two sixth-grade girls from Middle School North in Lake Zurich decided to do something nice. They created 800 hearts that they put on every locker of every sixth- through eighth-grade student last week.

The hearts carried this simple but powerful message: "You are loved!"

They also wrote about 100 letters to give one to every teacher, staff member, specials teacher and janitor at the school, thanking them for all they do.

When asked why they put time and effort into this project, the girls - who wish to remain anonymous - said:

"Because we like to be nice." and "We wanted to make people feel good."

Apparently, it worked.

The girls told Patch that they heard about a boy who kept the heart from his locker on his binder, and he told the school librarian that it really changed his life.

A janitor told the girls, after discovering who they were, that no one had ever done anything so nice for him. They said that was the whole goal - to do something nice for others, just because.
