UPDATE: Fire Destroys Rural Lake Zurich Outbuilding
Embers likely caused second fire in Hawthorn Woods.
Update: 10:20 p.m.
An abandoned outbuilding was destroyed by fire at 24150 Rose Ave. in unincorporated Lake Zurich, Monday evening, according to a news release from the Wauconda Fire District.Β
Wauconda received the call at 5:27 p.m. The structure, a 30-by-60-foot outbuilding was abandoned for at least 10 years, according to the Wauconda Fire District. Due to the rural location and no hydrants in the area, the fire district obtained water from a water tender--fire truck with water.Β

The fire was under control within 30 minutes and there were no injuries. Other departments that responded included Lake Zurich, Countryside, Barrignton, Fox River Grove, Buffalo Grove and Grayslake. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The estimated damage is $50,000.Β
Lake Zurich Fire Department responded to a second fire, nearby, that was likely started by embers from the Rose Avenue fire. Lake Zurich responded to the fire at 9 Arrowhead Road in Hawthorn Woods at 5:56 p.m. The roof fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries, according to a news release from the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department.

Additional companies were required at the scene to provide for overhaul, salvage, and complete the fire investigation. Β
The Buffalo Grove, Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Long Grove, and Mundelein Fire Departments assisted the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department. The Wheeling and Lake Villa Fire Departments provided station coverage in order to answer other calls within the Lake Zurich service area. Β

Lake Zurich Fire Chief David Wheelock reports that the Arrowhead Drive fire was a roof fire sparked by the Rose Avenue fire. He said there are no injuries and that the home is habitable. Β

Firefighters are working on battling a blaze in Lake Zurich, the Current Incident Notification Service reports.Β
The fire broke out after 5:30 p.m. at 24000 block of Rose Avenue, sending heavy black smoke into the air. The Lake & Mchenry County's FD Incident Facebook page reports there were multiple explosions at the locationΒ also causing flames to shoot from the roof.Β Another fire on Arrowhead Drive in Hawthorne Woods was sparked as result of the Lake Zurich Fire, the CINS reports.Β
