Lake Zurich considers plan to demolish old Kmart
A developer plans to replace the old building with apartments and commercial space.

The Lake Zurich Village Board of Trustees is expected to consider a proposed development near S. Rand Road and Route 22 at their December 19 meeting, according to the Daily Herald.
New Jersey-based developer Garden Homes wants to tear down the old Kmart so they can build three 4-story apartment buildings and 18,000 square feet of retail space. There would be 162 luxury apartments in the development.
Kmart operated on S. Rand Road for 20 years, but closed in 2002. The planning and zoning commission approved the plan, but the Village Board still needs to vote on the proposal.
