Hackers got a hold of Lake Zurich Mayor Thomas Poynton’s email account this weekend, the Daily Herald reports.
An email was sent out claiming he was mugged in the Philippines, lost all of his money and credit cards, and needed $1,700 to get back home. Poynton told the Daily Herald the email was completely false, and more than 50 people had contacted him regarding the issue over the weekend.
