Pedestrian Hit And Killed By SUV Is Executive For Suburban Transportation Company

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The man hit and killed while crossing Route 12 in Lake Zurich over the weekend has been identified as the vice president of a transportation company.

Casimir Ries, 59, of Lake Zurich, was an executive for Falcon America LLC in Arlington Heights. Preliminary results from an autopsy show that Ries died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, which happened at about 12:40 a.m. on Saturday near Route 12 and Deerpath Road, according to the coroner's office.

Ries was hit by a 2018 Lexus sports utility vehicle, which was headed east on Route 12, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office. Lake Zurich Deputy Police Chief Colin Gaffney said the SUV was driven by a 49-year-old Palatine resident, who did not leave the scene and underwent field sobriety testing, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner.

Investigators believe Ries was walking in or near a crosswalk at the time of the collision and are working to determine whether Ries or the SUV had the right of way, according to the news report.
