Preliminary Autopsy Results Released In Lake Co. Home Explosion

The coroner's office confirmed the person who died in the explosion near Lake Zurich was an adult male.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — More forensic testing is needed to confirm the identity of a man found dead inside a home that exploded near Lake Zurich Tuesday night, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The coroner's office could confirm that the person who died in a explosion that leveled a home in the 23500 block of North Overhill Road in unincorporated Lake Zurich was an adult male.

Results from an autopsy show the man had injuries consistent with inhalation of products of combustion, according to the coroner's news release. The coroner's office is waiting for toxicology testing, including carbon monoxide testing, to confirm the final cause of death.

At about 8:30 p.m., emergency workers were called to the home after receiving several reports of an explosion.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found the home completely leveled, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Police said the body of an adult man was found in the rubble.

The homeowner has not been accounted for, and authorities said the man recovered in the rubble has not yet been identified, according to a news release.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by Lake County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigators, Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District, and Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
