Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, Announces Good Citizen Award Winner

The Barrington, IL-based Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, has named Cristina Mac Cormac, a senior at Lake Zurich High School, the winner of its Good Citizen Award and scholarship. Cristina competed in the Chapter’s essay contest and received a $1,000 scholarship for her winning essay on the topic, “How will the essential actions of a good citizen – dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism – meet the challenges that America faces in this decade?”

Cristina has maintained a 3.9 GPA at Lake Zurich High School while taking thirteen Advance Placement classes. She is captain of the girls track and field team and is an all-conference, all-county, four-year varsity athlete. She has also participated in both the marching and concert bands, playing clarinet for all four years of high school.

Cristina has been active throughout high school in political science, social justice, and working as the Illinois Youth Representative for a national environmental lobbying organization. Her plans as an undergraduate next year are to focus on environmental studies and political science.

The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded fifty years ago in Barrington, IL in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women’s service organization headquartered in Washington, DC.

DAR members promote historic preservation, education and patriotism via commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service and more.
