Summer Camp Checklist
Tips to get organized and be prepared for your kids' summer camps.

Written by Sue Kirchner
School is out and the Summer Camp season is upon us. Are you ready?Β
At our house, we are in full Summer Camp preparation mode. Weβve signed up for some specialty day camps and registered for overnight camps for both my son and daughter. It will be theΒ first year away for my daughter,Β for two weeks at camp. Scary, but exciting!Β
Weβre also evaluating our summer camp gear from last year to make sure we have everything ready to go on Day 1.Β
Hereβs a checklist I created for myself. I hope it helps you get organized, as well. Β Send in all medical forms for camp. Β Β Β
- Order any medication refills, especially epi-pens, so the counselors can administer care to your child at camp Β Β Β Β
- Check to see if bathing suits still fit
- Check to see if the kidsβ pool towels have holes in them. If yes, get some new ones.
- Purchase sun screen and bug spray (donβt use old one under the sink β itβs probably not effective anymore)
- Make sureΒ school backpackΒ is holding up and can carry camp gear easily.Β
- If too small, buy a duffle bag.
- Get a newΒ lunch boxΒ if old one is looking a little shabby.Β
- Take the opportunity to upgrade to a new waste free lunch box.
- Definitely getΒ 2 stainless water bottlesΒ ready and waiting (Trust me, you need two because you are going to lose 1 within the first week of camp or you wonβt get around to washing it one night and donβt need to stress about it.) Β Β Β Β
- Double check your kidsβ sneakers. Many camps donβt let kids wear flip flops or sandals.
- Write your childβs name on everything!
- Stock up on trading cards or little games that the kids can take to camp to play with their new friendsΒ (My kids used to love trading Pokemon cards at camp, The next year it was little erasers. Wait until after Day 1 to see whatβs hot this year.)Β Β Β
- Note cards to write a note home to Mom & Dad
- Disposable camera to capture memoriesΒ
- Sleeping bag
- Pillowcase
- Toiletry bag
- Toiletries
- SnacksΒ
- Rain poncho
- Laundry Bag Β
