Not all of the park's amenities are ready yet; the dog park will open in spring 2026.
LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Park District is collaborating with contractors on the finishing touches throughout Athens Park, the District shared in a news release.
"While it is not at the final stage for all amenities, in the coming weeks, we hope to open the
playground, path and pavilions," the park district said.
The Barkyard Dog Park requires more time for turf establishment and is expected to open in spring 2026. There will be forthcoming information on how your four-legged friend can become a member.

The roadways and adjacent land around the park fall under the authority of multiple government agencies, including the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD), BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) Railway, Nicor, ComEd and the Village of Lemont.
"Safe access for pedestrians and vehicles is at the forefront of our plans," the park district said.

The Village is continuing to work on the bike bridge project that runs on the north end of the park.
The park district said it is collaborating closely with all partners to ensure all safety measures are implemented and adequate access to the park is set before opening. Temporary barricades may be erected at times as construction continues. Park goers should caution at these times.
A formal ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening will be scheduled once the park reaches
its next milestone next year.
