Obituary: Francis Brauer

Francis Brauer, age 93, of Lemont, died Sept. 30.

LEMONT, IL — Francis Brauer, age 93, of Lemont, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30, 2025, his family shared in his obituary. Born on Aug. 31, 1932, in Girard, Kansas, Francis was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, cherished son David, and dear sister Naomi (Jim).

Francis is survived by his children Richard (Linda) Brauer and Janet (Mike) Kasner, daughter-in-law Sharon, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Leroy (Marylin) Brauer, along with many beloved nieces and nephews, who will carry forward the memories and love he so generously shared.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Francis lived a life centered on family, curiosity, and creativity. He took sincere joy in being present for his loved ones—always engaged, always listening, always ready to help. A self-taught electrician and life-long tinkerer, he could fix or build nearly anything, often using what he had on hand. Over the years, his hands moved from wires to woodworking, painting, and crafting, never staying idle for long.

He was known by many as the “mayor of the block,” sitting in his garage chatting with anyone who passed by, often while working on his signature popsicle stick Christmas ornaments—gifts lovingly made for his growing family. “Let me put it to you this way,” he would often begin, before offering wisdom, humor, or a well-timed story—reminders of the wit and warmth he carried through life.

Visitation on Oct. 5 at Petkus Funeral Home, 12401 S. Archer Ave., Lemont. Interment on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 23060 W. Jefferson St., Joliet.
