1 Arrested In Connection With Fatal Shooting In Mundelein: Police

A 20-year-old Mundelein man faces charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Luis Moreno, 21.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 20-year-old man faces charges following the fatal shooting of a man Monday night in Mundelein.

Joaquin Romero, 20, of the 900 block of Lake Street in Mundelein, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and obstructing justice for allegations he possessed the firearm used in the shooting, according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Detectives found the vehicle used by the offender in the homicide and determined Romero was in the vehicle when Luis Moreno, 21, was shot in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 700 block of South Lake Street at about 7:10 p.m. Monday, police said.

Romero was arrested Tuesday in Round Lake.

No one was been charged yet with murder in connection with the fatal shooting but authorities are continuing to investigate the incident as a homicide, said Christopher Covelli, public information officer for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Romero is expected to appear in court this morning.
