1 Injured After Car Fire, House Fire In Crystal Lake

A car caught fire and spread to a home in Crystal Lake early Saturday morning, leaving four residents displaced and one of them injured.

The Crystal Lake Fire-Rescue Department responded around 12:04 a.m. Saturday to the 100 block of Rosedale Avenue for a report of a structure fire.

Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Chris Olsen said all occupants had evacuated the home prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Firefighters arrived within four minutes and found a single-family residence with smoke and flames showing and a car in the driveway on fire.

Olsen said that crews immediately initiated fire suppression operations and quickly extinguished the fire. The structure sustained moderate smoke and fire damage.

There were no injuries to any firefighters but one resident was evaluated at the scene by paramedics.

The house was deemed uninhabitable and ComEd, Nicor, and the Crystal Lake Water Division responded to secure the utilities.

Crystal Lake firefighters were assisted by the Algonquin, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda-Rural, West Dundee, Wonder Lake and Woodstock fire departments.

The Salvation Army assisted at the scene and investigators from Algonquin and Cary are assisting Crystal Lake with the investigation.

Damage to the residence is estimated at $75,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
