14-Year-Old Believed Dead After Disappearing Into Water At Beach In Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Recovery efforts were ongoing Wednesday in Lake County after a 14-year-old boy disappeared into the waters of Lake Michigan during a visit to Illinois Beach State Park, authorities said.
The boy was knocked by a wave into the water Tuesday afternoon at the park, located along the shoreline near Beach Park and Zion, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified shortly after 4 p.m. that the teen had not resurfaced.
Divers and a helicopter assisted with the search.

The boy is believed to have drowned Tuesday, but recovery efforts continued Wednesday, authorities said.
