15-Year-Old Student Charged In Connection With Antioch HS Lockdown: PD

Police said they traced a phone used in making a threat toward Antioch Community High School on Friday to the teen and arrested the student.

ANTIOCH, IL — A 15-year-old Antioch High School student faces criminal charges after police said he was arrested on Monday in connection with Friday's lockdown of Antioch Community High School.

Police said Tuesday that the student, who has not been identified publicly by police, was turned over to juvenile officials at the Robert W. Depke Juvenile Detention Center in Vernon Hills on Monday night.

The student faces a felony charge of disorderly conduct (enhanced) in connection with the incident, police said on Tuesday.

The high school was placed on lockdown at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday after the school received a voicemail of a threatening nature. After conducting a complete sweep of the school, police determined there was no threat to the school or community and the students and staff were released.

Out of an abundance of caution, Antioch Police also responded to every school within its jurisdiction during the lockdown.

Following an investigation, however, detectives were able to locate the phone used to make the threat, which eventually led them to the teen. Investigators believe the juvenile acted alone and there are no other charges expected in the investigation, officials said on Monday.

Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said in a news release that the community has zero tolerance for this type of behavior and expects anyone charged in this situation to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“Thankfully, there was never a legitimate threat to our community,” Guttschow said. “This bad hoax created unnecessary stress and anxiety for students and faculty at the school, their families, and the entire Antioch community. Our detectives worked hard to make a quick arrest. I hope this shows others that justice will be served and there will be no tolerance for this type of behavior.”
