Antioch Man Dies After Snowmobile Falls Into Lake

According to the news report, authorities said the man was found 30 minutes after diving crews were called to Loon Lake.

ANTIOCH, IL — An Antioch man died after a snowmobile he was driving went into a lake in unincorporated Antioch Sunday. According to Lake and McHenry County Scanner, the Antioch Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff's office were called to the 22900 block of West Lakeshore Drive around 11 p.m. Sunday for a report of a snowmobile that went through the water. According to the news report, Antioch Fire Department Chief Jon Cokefair said that the victim was driving a snowmobile on the ice on West Loon Lake when it plunged into water that wasn't believed to be covered in ice.

Several fire departments responded with divers and boats to help with rescue efforts, and divers found the man 30 minutes after they were called. Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that the snowmobile was found 50 to 75 yards southwest of the seawall, according to Lake and McHenry County Scanner. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper confirmed the victim was a 40-year-old man from Antioch, who was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, the news report said.
