Bernard M. Keegan "Was a Friend to All Who Knew Him"

Services have been scheduled for Bernard M. Keegan of Green Oaks.

Bernard M. Keegan, 82, of Green Oaks, passed away Tuesday, March 26 unexpectedly at his home.

He was born July 2, 1930 in Libertyville, and was a 1949 graduate of Libertyville High School. Bernie was a member of the St. Joseph Parish and was a resident of Libertyville for most of his life. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force and was proud to have served his country. He was an employee of AT&T (Illinois Bell) for over 30 years, and also for the State Department where he was responsible for the installation of Communication systems in the Middle East, specifically Egypt and Syria, Mexico, Africa and South America. Bernie was bigger than life and was a friend to all who knew him.

Surviving are his three children; Peter (Pat) Keegan of Hawthorn Woods, Linda Keegan of Oshkosh, WI, and Charmaine (Bruce) Schafernak of Libertyville, two stepsons; Dann (Lynn) Hansen of Libertyville, and Peter (Donna) Hansen of Lindenhurst, Grandchildren; Robert (Kristine) Keegan, Scott (Alexa) Keegan, Benjamin Pettey, Katelyn Schafernak, Allison Schafernak, Michael Rundquist, Amy Hansen, Scott Hansen, Mackenzie Hansen, Matthew (Rachel) Jacyna, Brian Austin, Michelle Austin and Melinda (George) Boutsikakis, 11 Great Grandchildren, one Sister, Eleanor Zold of Palatine, one Brother, George (Cathy) Keegan of Birchrunville, PA, his dear friend, Lee Murphy of Park City, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years Paula L. Keegan in 2007.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, 121 E. Maple Ave. Libertyville, IL 60048. A visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, April 1 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rte. 176 one block west of 21/Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville, IL 60048.
