Community Unites at Zacharias Center’s Race to Zero to Support Survivors of Sexual Violence
Emceed by WGN-TV's Christine Flores, the Event Celebrated Resilience and Healing
Nearly 200 participants came together early Sunday, September 14th at Independence Grove Forest Preserve for Zacharias Center’s (ZCenter) annual Race to Zero 5K & 1-Mile Walk, an event dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence and advancing prevention education across Lake and Northeastern Cook Counties.
Runners, walkers, survivors, families, and community members laced up to show solidarity and raise critical funds for ZCenter’s free, trauma-informed services, which reach nearly 25,000 residents each year. Graham Vonderhaar claimed the overall 5K win, while Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart, Biggest Loser winner Danni Allen, ZCenter board members, staff, and advocates lent their voices and presence in support of the cause.
Proceeds from Race to Zero directly fund ZCenter’s counseling, advocacy, and prevention education programs, all provided free of charge. For more than 40 years, ZCenter has stood as a pillar of hope, offering a safe and supportive environment for survivors while driving systemic change through education and outreach. www.zcenter.org
