Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz described his symptoms and shared two takeaways with the Village regarding the coronavirus.
MUNDELEIN, IL — Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz announced Monday during a remote "electronic" Mundelein Village Board meeting that he has tested positive for the coronavirus. The mayor also shared his wife, Michelle also tested positive for the coronavirus, and that both are quarantined at their home, according to statements from the meeting.
About halfway through the evening meeting, Lentz said "I feel obligated to disclose over the weekend I tested positive for this virus," and added that the symptoms are "fairly mild," and started with a scratchy throat.
Lentz also shared two takeaways with listening board members and all Mundelein residents, describing the "importance of social distancing," describing his scratchy throat as "so mild" he never would've even thought he had the virus, and credits social distancing to help prevent the spread.

While on the topic of prayer, Lentz described the impact the virus is having on the economy as an "absolute debacle" due to layoffs and businesses "bleeding cash," which he said will affect many families in Mundelein. He asked that residents follow the lead of Archbishop Cupich, who is calling people to say a prayer at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The mayor is urging residents to follow the recommendations of health officials, especially because people might have the coronavirus and not know they have it.
