Coronavirus In IL: New Waukegan Site Sterilizing N95 Masks

Nonprofit research firm​ Battelle ​turned a Waukegan parking lot into a mask cleaning site amid the coronavirus pandemic, the report said.

WAUKEGAN, IL — A new Waukegan site is one of the first sterilization facilities where thousands of N95 masks are being cleaned daily during the coronavirus pandemic. According to Chicago Tribune, nonprofit research firm Battelle turned a parking lot of a medical device supplier into one of six initial facilities where used masks are being placed on racks inside converted shipping containers, and cleaned by hydrogen peroxide gas. The news report said that according to Battelle officials, the Waukegan site has been doing this mask sterilization process for Advocate Aurora Health's hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin, and more hospitals will soon be added.
