Coroner IDs Man Shot, Killed In Zion

The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the man fatally shot in Zion early Friday as Eric Irvin, 39.

ZION, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a man fatally shot in Zion early Friday as Eric Irvin, 39.

An autopsy performed on Irvin shows he died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the coroner's office.

Authorities were called to a home in the 2900 block of Elizabeth Avenue in Zion at about 2:40 a.m. Friday for a report of shots fired, according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

Police found Irvin inside the home with gunshot wounds, and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities believe Irvin was hit by shots fired outside the home, and the home "was likely the intended target of the shooting."

The shooting death remains under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to call Zion Police at 847-872-8000.
