Dom's Kitchen & Market Plans First Suburban Store In Vernon Hills

Vernon Hills has given its initial approval for the grocery store, which will be part of the Hawthorn redevelopment project.

VERNON HILLS, IL — The owners of Dom's Kitchen & Market — a grocery business that currently only has locations in Chicago — is planing to build it's first suburban store in Vernon Hills, with the hopes of bringing "something special" to the Hawthorn 2.0 redevelopment project.

The Vernon Hills Village Board has approved the concept for Dom's Kitchen & Market allowing plans to move forward to staff, who will provide a full review of the project prior to a public hearing and official vote on the 24,000-square-foot grocery store. The "boutique-style" businesswould include a hybrid grocery store and restaurant and is proposed to be built at 600 Townline Road, according to the Daily Herald

Dom's Kitchen & Market was launched by Mariano's founder and former Dominick's executives in 2021. The grocer currently has locations in the Lincoln Park and Old Town, with a third planned for River North this summer.

Dom's will be among the new businesses planned at Hawthorn, a 50-year-old shopping center, which is undergoing a massive makeover that will include the addition of luxury apartments and new shops at the mall and surrounding property.
