Drunk Man Accused Of Attacking Acquaintance With Knife At Hotel

The 54-year-old Libertyville-area man now faces an aggravated battery charge.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 54-year-old man faces charges for allegations he used a knife to attack an acquaintance white at a motel Friday night near Libertyville.

Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident at the motel in the 31200 block of North Route 45 at about 10:05 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of a fight and a stabbing, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man, who lived at the hotel with minor cut injuries. An investigation into the incident revealed Javier Moran, 54, who also lives at the motel, had been drinking in the motel room with two other acquaintances when he became argumentative and threatened one of the men, according to a news release.

Moran was asked to leave the room and initially complied. But he later returned with a knife and attempted to stab the 31-year-old man, who deflected the knife and sustained minor hand injuries, according to police.

Moran then got into a physical fight but was subdued by the 31-year-old man and another person in the room, authorities said.

The man declined medical treatment and Moran requested an evaluation at a hospital due to injuries he sustained while being subdued.

Moran has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and was ordered to remain detained until he appeared for a detention hearing.
