Fire Department Personnel Rescue Man Who Jumped Into Lake Michigan Near Waukegan

A man is reportedly in critical condition after he was pulled from Lake Michigan by firefighters Tuesday morning near Waukegan.

Waukegan Fire Marshal Todd Zupec said his department received a call for a report of a person in the water on Lake Michigan.

Firefighters arrived on the scene with the Waukegan Police Department and confirmed a male subject was in the water.

The victim was in the water along the Government Pier in the channel that leads out of the harbor, Zupec said.

Fire rescue personnel in water rescue flotation suits entered the water and secured the victim.

They moved the man back to the pier where rescue personnel was able to pull him out of the water and onto the pier, Zupec said.

The victim was transported by paramedics to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan for treatment.

Zupec said he did not know the condition of the victim.

A source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the victim was in critical condition at the hospital.
