A former U.S. Navy sailor on Thursday was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a 2022 terrorist plot to attack Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago's northern suburbs in retaliation for the assassination of an Iranian general.

Xuanyu Harry Pang pleaded guilty in November to conspiring to and attempting to willfully injure and destroy national defense material, national defense premises, and national defense utilities, with the intent to injure, interfere with, and obstruct the national defense of the United States.

At a hearing on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Jeremy C. Daniel sentenced Pang to 12 years in prison.
