Funeral Set For Mundelein Student Killed In Jet Ski Crash

A visitation and celebration of life for Elle Hyon Kim, 13, of Long Grove will be held Tuesday.

MUNDELEIN, IL — Funeral services have been set for a 13-year-old suburban girl who was killed in a June 18 collision with a boat while she was riding on a jet ski on Lake Marie.

A visitation for Elle Hyon Kim is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect. A celebration of life will run from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home, according to Kim's obituary.

Kim, who would've been in eighth grade this fall at West Oak Middle School in Mundelein, died after the jet ski she was on collided with a boat on Lake Marie Tuesday. The driver of the jet ski was identified as Sarina Vootkur, 16, of Lake Forest, California.

Meanwhile, a fundraiser set up by Vootkur's boyfriend, Jake Cunanan, has raised more than $40,000.

The funds will be used to hold a memorial service and put in place some sort of "permanent remembrance to commemorate her in the way she deserves," Cunanan wrote on a GoFundMe set up to bring in funds.

Vootkur loved soccer, journaling, filming, editing and wanted to be an English teacher, Cunanan wrote.

"She was so special and gone way too soon," Cunanan wrote.
