'Good Boy' K9 Diesel And Partner Help In Lake County Search

Lake County Sheriff's office duo K9 Diesel and Deputy Forlenza tracked the female for over a half-mile before officers located her.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — It's a dog's day (or week) at the Lake County Sheriff's office, as K9 units are being praised on and off the TV screen. On Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office said "Good Boy" K9 Diesel and Deputy Craig Somerville helped local police officers search for a female in what authorities said was a mental health crisis, according to the sheriff's office. It was reported that the woman made statements of self-harm and harm towards others, and left from a home without shoes or a jacket, the sheriff's office added.

The sheriff's office added that K9 Diesel and Deputy Forlenza tracked the female for over a half-mile, and as they approached her, she was found by police officers. She was taken to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation.

In October, K9 Dax and Deputy Forlenza visited the West Coast to attend the 2019 American Humane Hero Dog Awards in Hollywood. As one of seven finalists who were up for the title of the 2019 American Hero Dog, Dax, Deputy Forlenza and Sheriff Idleburg attended the awards gala on Oct. 5 at the Beverly Hilton, according to the sheriff's office.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office announced in July that out of nearly 900,000 votes cast across the nation, K9 Dax won the distinction of being the nation's top Law Enforcement Hero Dog of the year. The top honor in the individual (Law Enforcement) category made Dax one of the seven finalists sent to walk the red carpet in LA.
