Gymnastics Coach Had Sex With Teen In Lake Co. Hotel: Prosecutors

The 29-year-old Palatine man was ordered held on $750,000 bond after he allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old girl he trained.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 29-year-old Palatine gymnastics coach faces sex assault charges after he allegedly slept with a 16-year-old girl he trained in a Lake County hotel. Kendale L. Coats, of the 900 block of North Sterling Drive, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault to a victim between 13 and 17, and he is being held on $750,000 bond at the Lake County Jail, the Daily Herald reports.

According to the Lake County state's attorney's office, the victim contacted police and told authorities that she and Coats had sex at a Libertyville hotel, the report stated. Investigators then recovered credit card receipts that showed Coats had checked in to the hotel using his first name on Jan. 11, the report added.

Police said Coats allegedly admitted to having sex with victim at the hotel and at his home, the report stated. The state's attorney's office told the Herald that Coats also knew the girl was only 16-years old.

The case is still under investigation, and Coats' next court date is Feb. 21.
