LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Downtown Libertyville's historic Liberty Theater is closed. Doors to the theater at 708 N. Milwaukee Avenue shut last week, according to reports, as the decision on a request to demolish the decades-old theater is still pending. In December, the Village of Libertyville reported the decision was pushed back until February. The building housing the Liberty Theater is located within a designated historic district, village officials said, and was owned by the Rhyan family for more than 50 years, before it was leased and operated by Scott Dehn in recent years, according to the Daily Herald. He ended operations last week, the news report added.

More:

The theater first opened as Liberty Theatre in 1937 and in recent years has gone by the name of Liberty 1 & 2 Theatres, according to the Daily Herald. The next step is for the village board to consider the commission's report and make a decision whether to accept, reject or modify the recommendation, the news report said. That review has been delayed until next month.
