WAUKEGAN, IL — A Lake County jury took less than three hours to decide the fate of Kenneth Seplak, ruling that the 39-year-old Round Lake Beach man was guilty of intentionally murdering a Libertyville man in 2016. Kenneth Seplak was immediately taken into custody Tuesday after the jury returned with their verdict, according to the Daily Herald. Seplak had been free on bail.

During Seplak's trial this past week, prosecutors presented their case, accusing Seplak of shooting 30-year-old David Gorski, of Libertyville, at a traffic light after becoming enraged that he had gone out on a date with a woman who had not returned his romantic advances, according to the Daily Herald.

Authorities found Gorski unresponsive in a Volkswagen Jetta at 11:30 p.m. Dec. 23 after receiving a report of a slumped-over driver in the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Hollister Drive in Libertyville. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, authorities said, adding that he suffered a gunshot wound.

Authorities said Seplak followed the woman he'd been stalking, Sandy Moreno, to AMC Hawthorn 12 in Vernon Hills, where he saw her on a date with Gorski. Prosecutors used text messages sent by Seplak to Moreno, many which were unreturned, as evidence during the trial. The jury had the option of deciding Seplak was guilty of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter or first-degree murder and convicted him on the latter, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
