Keen-Eyed Good Samaritan Credited For Bringing Missing Lake County Teen To Safety

A 17-year-old teen reported missing by family members in Barrington on Sunday has been found safe, authorities said.

Police Chief David Daigle said family members contacted the Barrington Police Department at about noon Sunday to report that the 17-year-old juvenile was missing.

Daigle said family members gave police a description of the teen, then said the teen’s last known location was Citizens Park in Barrington.

Police canvased the area and called in outside help from about 10 surrounding departments to assist, Daigle said. K-9 units were also deployed, Daigle said, as was a police drone to assist in the search effort.

A command center was also established at Citizens Park to coordinate search efforts, Daigle said.

In addition, he said searchers combed through the Cuba Marsh Forest Preserve in Deer Park to hunt for the missing teen. The juvenile was located about three hours later, Daigle said.

He said a citizen who was alerted about the missing juvenile saw a juvenile matching the teen’s description walking on a roadway near the Barrington Metra station. Police arrived on the scene and took the juvenile into protective custody, Daigle said.

Daigle thanked the numerous departments for their assistance during the search.

In addition, Daigle thanked citizens for keeping a sharp lookout for the missing teen.

“It was because of the careful watch of the public that we were able to find the missing juvenile,” Daigle said.
