Lake Co. DOT Shares Plowing Plan, Urges Caution When Driving
Blizzard-like conditions are expected throughout the Chicago area, including Lake County.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — Lake County Division of Transportation crews will be busy Friday plowing snow as blizzard-like conditions are expected throughout the Chicago area, including Lake County.
On Thursday, DOT officials shared some insight with the public into what their day would look like and what to expect on area roadways:
"Here's an honest take from us. Tomorrow, it's going to snow, which could be a lot of snow. Our crews and plows are ready to go for a full-day event. We are concerned about the snowfall rate. The forecast calls for rates greater than 1 inch per hour. It takes our plows more than one hour to complete a route, therefore it's likely that roads at some point will be snow-covered. And it can take even longer to complete a route during the morning and evening commutes because of all the cars on the road."

National Weather Service officials are calling for treacherous conditions during the Friday morning commute and snowfall rates could reach between one to two inches per hour in Lake County and other portions of the Chicago area.

On top of the snowfall, heavy wind gusts are expected during the storm. The wind gusts are expected to be strongest Friday evening.

"Please take it slow and drive carefully if you plan to head out tomorrow. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Our team will do whatever we can to get roads cleared as soon as possible. We're going to battle this storm with the best team you could have," according to the post on the Lake County DOT Facebook page.
