Driving under the influence (DUI), traffic offenses
Libertyville Police Department officers were called to a report of a suspicious car in the 1300 block of N. Milwaukee Avenue at 1:07 a.m. Sunday, where officers saw a car that had pulled into the drive-thru lane and was stopped with its engine running and front tire turned into the raised drive-thru curb.
According to the news release, police went up to the car and found the driver, 52-year-old Gerardo Borrego, of the 900 block of Taylor Drive in Gurnee, asleep in the driver's seat.
Police said Borrego was instructed to place the car in park and provide an ID and car insurance. He wasn't able to hand over car insurance, and due to several signs of impairment, was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which according to police, he failed.
The car was inventoried and towed, and officers found several guns while inventorying the car, and found out via a FOID inquiry that Borrego wasn't issued a FOID card, according to the news release.
Borrego was arrested and taken to the Libertyville Police Department where he was cited and processed on accusations of DUI, operating an uninsured vehicle and possession of a firearm without requisite FOID.
According to police, Borrego was released after posting his driver's licenses and signing a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. His court date is scheduled for Dec. 27 at the Lake County Court House in Waukegan, police said.
