Man Hit, Killed By Metra Train On Union Pacific North Line

The man was killed after being hit by a Metra train near the Waukegan-North Chicago border on Thursday morning.

NORTH CHICAGO, IL — A man was hit and killed by a Metra train near the Waukegan-North Chicago border on Thursday morning.

Metra spokeswoman Meg Riele said the man was fatally struck by a Union Pacific North line train at about 8:30 a.m., according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The train was heading inbound toward Chicago from Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The identity of the man has not yet been released, and the Lake County Coroner's Office is working to schedule an autopsy for the man, according to the article.

The collision caused extensive delays after Metra halted inbound and outbound trains in the area of the incident, Metra officials said Thursday.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
