Man Walking In Traffic Hit By Car, Killed Near Libertyville: Police

A 54-year-old Park City man has died after being hit by the car on Route 137 early Thursday, police said.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 51-year-old Park City man has died after he was hit by a car near Libertyville early Thursday.

The incident happened at about 3:20 a.m. on Route 137 at Clover Drive in unincorporated Libertyville, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived, they found a 51-year-old Park City man with critical injuries.

Police say the man was hit by a 2016 Kia Rio, which was headed west on Route 137 at the time. The man was walking in the lane of traffic, and the driver of the Rio, a 54-year-old Woodstock man, did not see the man before hitting him, according to the news release.

Police are not sure why the Park City man was walking in traffic, according to authorities.

He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Kia was not injured.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office is scheduling an autopsy, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
