McHenry Man Gets 7 Years In Prison For 7th DUI Conviction

A McHenry man was sentenced to seven years in prison — but could be released in half of that — for his seventh DUI conviction and 15th driving with a revoked license conviction.

Danilo Romero-Morales, 47, of the 3800 block of Waukegan Road in McHenry, was charged on July 28, 2018, with three counts of aggravated driving under the influence and one count of driving on a revoked license.

During a bench trial, McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt found Romero-Morales guilty of one count of aggravated driving under the influence, a Class X felony, and one count of driving on a revoked license, a Class 2 felony.

Wilbrandt sentenced Romero-Morales on October 9 to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for each of his two convictions, but the sentences will be served concurrently.

Under in truth-in-sentencing guidelines, Romero-Morales will serve 50 percent of the sentence, which means he could be released in 3 ½ years.

Prosecutors presented evidence at Romero-Morales’ sentencing hearing that the man had six prior violations of driving under the influence.

Prosecutors also noted that the man had fourteen prior convictions of driving with a revoked license.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Ann Scholl and investigated by Deputy Steinmetz and Deputy Krajniak of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
