From Libertyville Elementary Schools 70: Copeland Manor students will see the new school gymnasium for the first time during a special assembly at 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 2 at the school, 801 S. Seventh St., Libertyville. Students will be called down to the new gym shortly after school begins at 8:15 a.m., and enter the gymnasium for the first time since construction began last school year. The new gym, complete with a stage, is part of a $5.7 million addition to the school. Four classrooms also were added to the construction plan, which began in May, and were ready when the school opened this past August. The new gymnasium, however, was constructed throughout the summer and students have been using the old gym, which will be turned into a multipurpose room, up until next Friday. Parents will see the new gym for the first time the next day, on Saturday, Dec. 3, when their own children give them a tour during the Breakfast/Holiday Shop event running from 8 to 11 am at the school.
The gymnasium opening event will include brief speeches by Board of Education President Tom vVickers, Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher, Principal Lori Poelking and a student. The school's Chorus Club also will perform. Students and staff will then gather for a group photo in the new gymnasium.
