School District Accepting Donations To Help Families Displaced By Tornado In Mundelein
Donations are being accepted to help the 59 residents who were displaced after a tornado touched down.

Donations are being accepted to help the 59 residents who were displaced after a tornado touched down and damaged their apartment building in Mundelein late last month.
An EF-1 tornado touched down during a severe weather event on February 27 and damaged an apartment building at the Washington Apartments, 32 Washington Boulevard in Mundelein.

The damage occurred to a 30 by 30 section of the roof on the southwest corner of the structure, Mundelein Fire Chief Bill Lark said.
A large section of brick facade on the same corner collapsed onto the ground. Two large softwood trees in the parking lot east of the building were uprooted and debris was scattered throughout the area.

Lark said the building was deemed to be structurally sound but not inhabitable for residents.
Approximately 59 residents from 21 units were displaced from the building.
The Village of Mundelein announced on Thursday that community liaisons with Hawthorn Community Consolidated School District 73, which includes the apartment building affected, are working with homeless liaisons to help the displaced families.
Other organizations like the American Red Cross and Lake County Emergency Management Agency are also lending support.
People can donate non-perishable foods, new clothing and toiletries to the Welcome Center, located at 1500 West Hawley Street next to the Mundelein High School.
Gift cards to retail stores like Walmart, Target, Aldi and Jewel-Osco are also being accepted.
Monetary donations can also be made through Hawthorn District 73, and “families from weather damage” should be noted in the comments.
