Several Animals Die In McHenry Co. Dairy Barn Fire
A dairy barn was heavily damaged and several animals were killed by a fire that started Wednesday evening east of Marengo.

A dairy barn was heavily damaged and several animals were killed by a fire that started Wednesday evening in McHenry County east of Marengo.
The Union Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:19 p.m. Wednesday to the 6300 block of McCue Road in Union, which is south of Woodstock and east of Marengo, for a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a dairy barn heavily involved in flames and in the process of collapsing.
The residents on the property reported to firefighters that animals were still inside the barn. All animals escaped except for four goats that died in the blaze.

Fire officials said rural water operations were established due to the lack of fire hydrants being in the area.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the second alarm to bring water tender trucks to the scene.

The barn, which fire officials estimated was built in the 1930s or 1940s, was heavily damaged in the blaze. A damage estimate was not available.
Firefighters were called back to the property twice overnight after the blaze started up again. No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire.
