Suburban Mall Demolition Continues: What's Next For Spring Hill Mall Property?
The mall has been razed and American Demolition is working to clear the property

WEST DUNDEE, IL â A once-bustling mall has been leveled and only piles of rubble remain where it once stood.
Meanwhile, the villages of Carpentersville and West Dundee, which both own portions of the demolished Spring Hill Mall land are beginning to work on plans for the property. As is the case with many municipalities contemplating what to do with fledgling or closed malls, officials in West Dundee â which owns about 80 percent of the property â foresees a mix of residential, retail and entertainment options available in the future at the site, the Daily Herald is reporting.
As of late October, crews with American Demolition continued to work to clear the property. Only the Cinemark Theater remains open on the 70-acre property located near West Main Street and North 8th Street.

Houseal Lavigne, a Chicago-based urban planning firm, has been hired by the village of West Dundee to draft conceptual designs, which they are expected to present to the village by the end of the year and area meant to help guide redevelopment of the property. A recent study shows the 72 acres within the road that circles the mall as well as 32 acres adjacent to it could provide the space to house 325,000 square feet of commercial space and 1,500 residential units, according to the Daily Herald.
The mall opened in 1980 and closed in March 2024.
