Thieves Take Lamborghini, Stolen Cars For Joy Rides: Police
The Libertyville Police Department is investigating reports of stolen vehicles and criminal trespassing made last week.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL —The Libertyville Police Department is asking for the public's help as authorities investigate a series of stolen vehicles and reports of trespassing to cars in town that happened last week.
Police say all the incidents occurred during the early morning hours of Nov. 22. Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect or suspects involved in the following reports:
- At about 1:34 a.m. on Nov. 22, police responded to a report of a burglary to a vehicle in process in the 1900 block of Lynn Circle. Authorities say two to three people were trying to get into a black pick-up truck. When police arrived, they found an unoccupied Hyundai SUV running in the middle of Lynn Circle. Police learned a Lamborghini was stolen from the garage at the residence and the Hyundai had been stolen from the 200 block of North Fourth Street. The Lamborghini was later recovered in Gurnee.
- At about 1:50 a.m., deputies with the Lake County Sheriff's Office attempted to pull over the stolen Lamborghini, which was fleeing the area along with a stolen Audi. The Audi was registered to an owner in the 1500 block of Parkview in Libertyville. The Audi was later recovered in North Chicago and was unoccupied.
- At about 2:04 a.m. on Nov. 22, officers talked with the owner of the stolen Hyundai and learned tools were stolen from the vehicle. The owner told police the Hyundai had been parked in an alley near the 200 block of North Fourth Street when it was taken.
- At about 3 a.m., police found two vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a Volvo, that were parked in the alley in the 200 block of Third Street with their car doors open. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicles.
- At about 3:06 a.m., authorities learned an Acura was rummaged through while it was parked in the 600 block of Broadway. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.
Following the series of thefts and burglaries from vehicles, police are reminding residents to lock their cars and remove any valuables from inside their cars. Homeowners are also reminded to make sure the doors to their garages and homes are locked at night.
