Thomas A. Magers was Retired Biochemist Who Developed Patents
Services have been scheduled for Thomas A. Magers of Libertyville.

Thomas A. Magers, 70, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
He was born Jan. 29, 1943 in Elwood, IN, was a former resident of South Bend and has lived in Libertyville since 1994. He received his Bachelors of Theology from Our Lady of the Lake Seminary in Wauwausee, IN, also attended Iowa State University, received his Masters in chemistry from Ball State University and did additional course work and deeply enjoyed the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of the Crosslife Evangelical Free Church in Libertyville and was a retired biochemist from Abbott Laboratories, developing a number of patents.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Marlene "Marti" Magers; nine children, Paul Michael Johnson of Grand Rapids, MI, Anthony (Shelley) Johnson of Jacksonville, FL, Lara (Kurtt) Matthys of North Liberty, IN, Todd (Elizabeth) Magers of Indianapolis, IN, Kerry Magers of Terre Haute, IN, Rebekah Magers of Mishawaka, IN, Lewis Magers of Chicago, IL, Amy (Dwight) Rhine of York, PA and Daniel Magers of Libertyville; 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother, John (Tanya) Magers; three sisters, Mary Ellen (Wes) Krivonen, Jude Magers (Donna Watzke) and Margaret Rose (Tony) Suveg; and also by a sister-in-law, Peggy Magers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane "Dee" Magers in 1975 and also by his brother, Kevin Magers.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sat. Aug. 24 at Crosslife Evangelical Free Church, 431 W. Austin Ave. Libertyville. An interment service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at Sumption Prairie Cemetery in South Bend, IN.
