Tobacco Compliance Checks: 5 Lake County Businesses Fail
64 tobacco compliance checks were conducted last week across Lake County, and five businesses failed, according to the sheriff's office.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Sheriff's office concluded the year's first round of tobacco compliance checks last week, according to a news release sent Tuesday. The sheriff's office said the checks were conducted at 64 businesses throughout Lake County which sell tobacco, and are intended to make sure businesses vending tobacco aren't selling to anyone under 21 years old. Of the 64 establishments checked, the sheriff's office reported that five failed the compliance check.
The five establishments in violation of the recent tobacco compliance checks are:
- Citgo Gas: 27161 West Grass Lake Road, unincorporated Antioch
- Citgo Gas: 41082 North Route 83, unincorporated Antioch
- Shell Gas: 41867 North Route 41, Wadsworth
- Puff-N-Stuff: 20370 North Rand Road, unincorporated Palatine
- Lake Cook Smoke Shop: 20017 North Rand Road, unincorporated Palatine
The sheriff's office cited the clerks and/or employees who completed the sale at the above establishments to those under 21.

The businesses checked include those within the jurisdiction of the Lake County Sheriff’s office, or communities which contract with the sheriff’s office for policing services, not those within municipal city/village limits, according to the sheriff's office.
