National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

Rep. Quigley: Please support research funding in light of dementia caregivers during National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month, offering an important reminder to support Illinoisans affected by this disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is devastating – not only for the more than six million Americans living with the disease, but also for the 11 million family and friends serving as caregivers. Here in Illinois, there are more than 590,000 family caregivers.

As a volunteer advocate with the Alzheimer’s Association, I understand the challenges Illinois caregivers are facing. My grandmother passed away from early onset Alzheimer's, and struggled so much in her final years. Caregivers need and deserve as much support as they can get.

I am asking my Representative, Mike Quigley, to support research funding in light of dementia caregivers during National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month.

This year, we’re asking for $226 million in Alzheimer’s and dementia research funding so that we can discover new ways to treat and eventually prevent Alzheimer’s and other dementias. That’s why we need Congress, including our Representative Mike Quigley, to continue investing in this disease.
