WILL COUNTY — Will County has three new K-9 officers on pawtrol (we're not sorry).

The department on Tuesday introduced K-9 officers Spawn, Edo and Echo as the newest members of its force.

All three completed an intensive, six-week training course at Landheim Training Center in Dyer, IN. Upon completion, they earned certification from both the State of Illinois and the American Police Canine Association.

Each K-9 is trained in article searches, tracking, and narcotics detection.

“Our K-9s have proven to be an invaluable asset to our department,” said Sheriff Mike Kelley. “Their work locating deadly narcotics, illegal firearms, apprehending dangerous fugitives, and locating missing/lost persons plays a critical role in keeping Will County safe.”

With this addition, the Will County Sheriff’s Office now operates nine active K9 teams. Several are trained in search and rescue, article searches, and drug detection; another is certified in bomb detection and is assigned to the Will County Courthouse.

"Eight in enforcement AND our beloved comfort dog Chase—a powerful force in the fight for public safety," the department said.

Several of the department's K-9s recently retired, and the department is looking for support for their healthcare to ensure a comfortable retirement. Donations can be made online.
