5 Nonprofits To Get Behind In The Manhattan Area

MANHATTAN, IL — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Manhattan area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Manhattan area:

1. Hands, Hooves, and Hope Ranch (HHH), Manhattan: HHH Ranch seeks to improve the quality of life for animals and people. The ranch promotes communication skills, healing, building confidence and equality for all individuals through community outreach, education, and research. HHH provides a sanctuary for people and animals. Its objective is to break down any barriers that prevent personal growth and societal participation.

2. Trinity Services, Inc., New Lenox: Founded in 1950, Trinity Services is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization that provides the highest quality person-directed services and supports to people with disabilities and mental illness.

3. Manhattan Township Historical Society: The Manhattan Township Historical Society's Mission is to collect, preserve, organize and display items or artifacts that depict and reflect the lives, customs, activities and history of the businesses, residents and residences of the village and township of Manhattan.

4. Will County Children's Advocacy Center, Joliet: The only agency of its kind in Will County, the Will County Children's Advocacy Center provides hope, healing and justice for children (and non-offending family members) who have endured physical and sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, child pornography, neglect and exposure to violence.

5. Cache Creek Animal Rescue, Frankfort: A no-kill animal rescue based out of Alsip Nursery in Frankfort. Each year, they send between 600-800 animals—mostly dogs and puppies—to new homes. Cache Creek shares all of its adoptable animals via its Facebook page. Volunteers are invited to drop in and visit with the pets for socialization.

6. Crisis Center for South Suburbia: The Crisis Center for South Suburbia is a non-profit community organization that provides emergency shelter and other essential services for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence and addresses the societal issues that contribute to domestic violence.
