4 Injured, 2 Critically In Head-On Crash On Manhattan Road: Manhattan Fire
The crash happened in the 17000 block of Manhattan Road Thursday evening, officials said.
ELWOOD, IL — Four people were injured—two critically—in a head-on collision Thursday evening on Manhattan Road, officials said.
The crash happened in the 17000 block of Manhattan Road just before 5 p.m., according to Manhattan Fire Protection District Chief Steve Malone.
Crews arrived on scene within approximately six minutes and found a two-vehicle car crash with heavy damage to both vehicle, fire officials said. One car had a sole occupant; the second car had three occupants. Three of four people involved in the crash required extrication, Malone said.

Two were reportedly in critical condition; two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Malone said. All patients were initially transported to Silver Cross Hospital.
One patient was reportedly airlifted, Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Dan Jungles said later.

Mutual aid assistance was provided at the scene by the New Lenox, Frankfort, East Joliet, and Elwood fire protection districts. Additional mutual aid companies from Wilmington, Mokena, Beecher, and University Park covered Manhattan Fire Protection District stations to maintain emergency response coverage while crews operated at the incident scene.
The crash scene was turned over to the Will County Sheriff’s Office for investigation. Manhattan Road will remain closed at Ridge Road for an extended period of time.
