Community Blood Drive In Manhattan Set For Aug. 4

The blood drive will take place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Manhattan Village Hall.

MANHATTAN, IL — The Village of Manhattan is partnering with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois for a community blood drive from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Manhattan Village Hall, 260 Market Place.

Appointments for the blood drive are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome, according to information on the Village of Manhattan website.

All donors will receive a Versiti water bottle and sticker pack as the company's way of saying “thank you."

Versiti offered some information for potential donors to keep in mind:

  • One in seven people entering the hospital will need blood.
  • Patients' lives could be at risk if we cannot maintain an adequate blood supply.
  • This is especially true when trauma situations occur.
  • Donors shouldn’t wait until the unexpected occurs to step up and give the gift of life.

The company also suggested that people eat a healthy meal and stay hydrated before donating blood.
