Dangers, Risks Of Consumer Fireworks In Manhattan: Fire Officials

Manhattan residents are reminded of the dangers as many won't be able to see professional fireworks shows due to the coronavirus pandemic.

MANHATTAN, IL — As many won't be able to see a professional fireworks show this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Manhattan Fire Protection District is reminding residents of the dangers of fireworks and risks that come with them. According to the fire protection district, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that thousands of people are injured while using consumer fireworks (sold by the public).

A few ideas to get into the spirit of the Fourth of July, without using fireworks, include red white and blue silly string, glow (glow in the dark) sticks, and more.

Fire officials said that despite the dangers of fireworks, few people understand the risks related to them, including fires, "devastating" burns, death, and other injuries, according to the NFPA.
