The Village of Manhattan is looking to hire a full-time administrative assistant for the Manhattan Police Department. Here's how to apply.

MANHATTAN, IL — The Village of Manhattan announced Wednesday they're looking to hire a full-time administrative assistant for the Manhattan Police Department. According to the village, this position is a considered to be safety-sensitive and confidentiality is critical in all phases of this position. The village said the salary range for this full-time position is $45,000 to $60,000.

The village describes the desired candidate for this position as:

  • Provides complex clerical and administrative support to the Manhattan Police Department
  • Develops and maintains effective and efficient administrative processes for the department, department personnel, and other village staff
  • Maintains law enforcement records and provides exceptional customer service to citizens and staff by providing information, answering questions, or directing them to the appropriate resources.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and skill with typical office equipment and computers, including software and applications such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Displays confidence and leadership
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Positive attitude and a willingness to help others

Education and Training

  • High School diploma or greater
  • A minimum or three years’ experience in a relevant office/administrative/clerical setting, or a combination of education and experience
  • High moral character; able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Prior work experience and knowledge of the principals, practices, and techniques of law enforcement, criminal justice system, or legal system preferred
  • Excellent typing, spelling, filing, reception, organizational and general office skills
  • Good basic reading, writing, math and verbal skills
  • Ability to deal courteously and efficiently with a variety of individuals including village residents, visitors, officials, and staff.
