Man, 79, Injured In Rollover, Crash Under Investigation: Will Co. Sheriff

The single-vehicle crash happened Thursday evening on Schoolhouse Road near Baker Road, the Will County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

MANHATTAN TOWNSHIP, IL — The Will County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 79-year-old man was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Thursday evening in Manhattan Township.

At 5:05 p.m., deputies with the Will County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover crash on Schoolhouse Road, approximately half a mile north of Baker Road in Manhattan Township.

Upon arrival, deputies found a green Jeep Renegade on its roof in a roadside ditch. Manhattan and New Lenox Fire Department personnel were already on scene and working to extricate the driver. No one else was in the vehicle.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Police say the Jeep was traveling south on Schoolhouse Road when it crossed into the northbound lane, left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned.

During the incident, a police said Chrysler minivan traveling northbound on Schoolhouse Road was forced to veer off the roadway to avoid a collision. No injuries or damages were reported from the minivan.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Manhattan Fire Department and the New Lenox Fire Department for their swift and professional response.

The crash remains under investigation by the Will County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.
